Gills striker Danny Kedwell faced stubborn resistance from his former team on Tuesday night.

Kedwell was one of several senior players to play for Gillingham’s development team against AFC Wimbledon.

Former Dons striker Kedwell had numerous chances and also struck the woodwork but was unable to break the home side’s resolve at the home of Merstham FC.

Wimbledon won the match 1-0 - watched from the stands by Gills boss Peter Taylor - thanks to a goal from Kevin Sainte-Luce.

Kedwell, who is looking to force his way back into Gills’ first team, was lining up alongside Antonio German and both players struck the woodwork in the first half.

Gills frontman Kedwell was also denied by a last-ditch block from Callum Wilson

Teenager Ryan Sweeney made a good block from German but the Dons led at the break thanks to Sainte-Luce’s left-footed drive midway through the half.

Dons keeper Joe McDonnell again thwarted Kedwell in the second half, tipping a header onto the bar. The shot-stopper also denied Gills’ Danny Galbraith from a set-piece move to claim a well-earned clean-sheet.
