Lee Martin has taken another step closer to making his competitive Gills debut.
He played his first 90 minutes in over six months on Tuesday when the Gills faced Belgium side Patro Eisden.
It follows an hour in the game against Dagenham the week before as he works towards making his way into Gills’ first team squad.
Report: Gillingham 3 Patro Eisden Maasmechelen 1
Martin has been sidelined since breaking and dislocating his ankle at Leyton Orient in pre-season.
“He is getting closer,” said Gills head coach Ady Pennock.
“It may be another week but we will see how he feels.
“He did (the injury) when he planted his foot and I think it is just a mental thing. He will tell me when he is ready.
“We should hopefully see him involved this month and that will be good. I’m not putting a gun to his head or anything, he has to be ready, mentally and physically and we have to keep managing him.”
Bradley Garmston also played 90 minutes in the game, at centre-back, and he should now be fit enough to start for the Gills, should he be needed.
