Gillingham striker Noel Mbo gets 76-minute run-out for Swedish side Helsingborgs in friendly against Osters

Noel Mbo started for Swedish top-flight side Helsingborgs in a friendly match against Osters on Saturday.

The Gillingham striker is on trial and the 19-year-old played 76 minutes in a 2-0 win.

Helsingborgs were promoted back to Sweden’s top division last season and are preparing for the new campaign, which gets under way at the end of March.

Gillingham confirmed on Thursday that the young DR Congo forward is with the Swedish side for a six-day trial.

Mbo is a product of Gills’ youth set-up but his opportunities within the first team have been limited since earning a professional deal.

His only league appearance came off the bench in the 2-0 home victory over Portsmouth on Boxing Day. He was an 89th-minute replacement for Josh Parker, who has also recently departed the club.

Speaking at the beginning of the season, Nbo was confident of challenging for a place in the first team. But his only other appearance this term was as a starter in the Checkatrade Trophy dead-rubber against Crawley Town.
