Gillingham boss Steve Lovell says midfield riches are tough on Franck Moussa

Midfielder Franck Moussa netted again at the weekend – but still faces a battle to win a deal at Gillingham.

Moussa is on trial with the Gills, back with the club after a short-term deal came to an end last season, and has now scored four times in three appearances after his goal against Tonbridge Angels on Saturday.

Boss Steve Lovell is a big fan of the player, but his midfield department is already well stocked.

He said: "Franck has scored a few goals for us. He has done well, but I have eight midfield players.

"He has come in to do a pre-season because he didn't get a chance last year. He struggled for a game.

"He is playing, he has scored a few goals, he has done all right, but is he going to get in? I don't know.

"It is something I will have to speak to Franck about.

"I like him here, he is a good lad, but in the next couple of weeks I am going to have to think about it and if there is something for him or not. I have to be honest with him.

"He still wants to play and train with us and get his fitness. Who knows, anything could happen now in the next two or three weeks.

"I am sure Franck will understand whatever happens but I am just glad he has got the opportunity to show me what he can do."

Another trialist, Emmaniel Yabo, has also impressed. The teenager played against Deal last Monday and did enough to earn a place in the squad for the Tonbridge game, where he once again showed what an attacking threat he can be.

"He looks like a forward-thinking player," said Lovell.

"He is strong, gets about the pitch and he is very confident, so I was quite impressed with him.

"He is another midfield player but he is a younger boy and he might be for the future, rather than this year.

"That is the kind of player I want, someone who is forward thinking, who has got that pace and strength and he is clever and he looks as if he has got the confidence to do it.

"We will give him an opportunity and we will play him again in the next few games and see how he does."

He was one of several trialists on show at Longmead, along with striker Jordan Brown and Shaquille Ishmail, who played at right-back.
