Eccles recently agreed a new contract with the Sky Blues.

He’s started the last four league games for the Gills.

Boss Steve Evans said: "Josh is a young man who has been superb for us and we all thank him.

"He will go back to his parent club a better and more experienced player. He has improved significantly and we all wish him the very best."

Coventry say Eccles will link up again with their squad ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie at Norwich City. He was an unused sub for Gillingham in the first round against Woking and not involved against Exeter City.

The player thanked the Gills for their support during his stay, writing on Twitter: "A massive thank you to the staff, the players and the fans at the Gills who all welcomed me with open arms!

"I’m grateful for the trust that was put in me and it was an experience I needed. I wish the boys all the best for the rest of the season. Some top players."
