Fulham's George Williams will give Justin Edinburgh extra attacking options at Gillingham

New signing George Williams will add a spark to the Gills says boss Justin Edinburgh.

The Welsh international joined the club before the weekend but arrived too late to be considered in Edinburgh’s starting XI against Barnsley.

Williams, 20, joins on a youth loan from Fulham for the rest of the season.

Describing his latest addition, Gills manager Edinburgh said: “He is a bit of a Bradley Dack mould and we needed to have that little spark, that little bit of x-factor and I have no doubt he will bring that for us.

“It took us a little longer than expected to get (the deal) over the line and so he only met the players before kick-off and he didn’t train with us.

"We will have a good week with him this week, and between now and the end of the season he will play a big part.”

Fulham youngster Williams is a full Welsh international.

With six caps to his name he will be vying for a place at this summer’s European Championships. Edinburgh is hoping performances with the Gills help him get there.

He said: “If you have someone who has the chance of getting to the Euros, here in League 1 with Gillingham, we will all get to see what kind of talent he is.

“He needs to get game-time to get to the Euros and what an incentive that can be. To help us gain promotion and for him to get to the Euros.”

Williams can play anywhere upfront, or just behind the strikers. He has only played once in the league this season as he looks to get back on track following an anterior cruciate ligament injury that kept him sidelined for over six months.

“He is an infectious player and I am delighted to get him here,” said the Gills boss.
