Art competition promises holiday fun

What would go in a lunchbox for The Incredibles? Plenty of iron-rich foods to help build up their muscles?

Or do they deserve something more indulgent as a reward for foiling the bad guys? Like a slice of pizza, say, or a cupcake.

With the heavens opening just as school finished for the summer, you may be puzzling over how to keep the children occupied over the holidays.

Well, one possibility is the KM Charity Team’s Perfect Packed Lunch competition, which aims to get primary school children’s creative and culinary juices flowing by using drawing and writing skills to design their ideal lunchbox contents.

Children must draw pictures of their meals, and give a written description of the ingredients and recipes and why they are so special. They must also choose a category for their creations from the following options: Superhero, Princess, Pirate Captain, Famous Artist, Knight, Book Character, Celebrity, Healthy, Cheesy, Fantasy, Fairytale, Historic.

So summer blockbusters such as The Incredibles 2 could provide plenty of inspiration.

The competition offers a wonderful opportunity for budding young artists, with the shortlisted entrants having their work put on public display at one of the county’s premier exhibition spaces – the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge in Canterbury.

The finalists will also be invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Beaney. And the overall winner will receive a box of goodies from competition supporter, Kent art shop Cowling and Wilcox.
