Family fun day Buster’s Big Bash returns to Canterbury’s Dane John Gardens on Saturday, May 18.

The annual event, which is entirely free, celebrates the KM Charity Team’s walk to school projects and reading reward initiative Buster’s Book Club. It is open for children – and their parents or carers – across Kent.

There will be circus performers, sporting challenges, emergency vehicles and stalls, and the great Buster Bug himself will keep youngsters and grown-ups alike entertained.

It runs from 10am to 12.30pm, and the first 300 children to check in will receive a goody bag. In addition, every child who completes a special challenge sheet will be awarded with a visitor-attraction voucher.

The event will start with an attempt to break the record for the longest walk-to-school ‘crocodile’ that has ever walked down a Kent street.

Then, after children have completed a host of challenge activities, there will be a circus performance and a teddy bears’ picnic.

Event coordinator Joanne Homes said: “Buster’s Big Bash is such a lovely event: there’s so much going on, it’s open to children from anywhere in Kent, it’s entirely free, and you could end up in the record books at the end of the day.

“It’s a great opportunity for everybody to have some fun while celebrating schools’ success with Buster’s Book Club and walk-to-school schemes Super Wow and Green Footsteps.

“But anyone who does intend to come needs to register in advance, so we can keep tabs of the numbers.

“We look forward to seeing everybody there on the day.”
