Barclays doubles charity quiz money

The Medway heat of the KM Big Charity Quiz has less than six weeks to go, meaning would-be teams need to act fast to guarantee a table.

Once again, charitable contributions made at the popular event will be matched by Barclays Bank.

It is the 13th time the bank has committed to matching the proceeds of the charity raffle and bar – meaning that every time contestants enjoy a drink, they are making a double donation to valuable good causes.

The raffle prizes and bar drinks will be provided by Hornby and Shepherd Neame respectively. The money raised will be split between the Medway Messenger’s charity of the year, The Net Community Hub, walk to school and literacy services for schools, and a third beneficiary to be chosen on the night from charities that have entered teams.

The Net Community Hub is a non-profit organisation committed to reducing social isolation among older people in Weedswood and Walderslade.

Andy Hunt from Barclays said: “It is our pleasure to support the KM Big Quiz. It is an event we have now been involved in for many years.

“The charity bar is a vital element of fundraising on the night to support the community. This will have an even greater impact, as the money will be matched through Barclays’ fantastic community investment programme, which also encourages employees to get involved in charities and causes.

“It’s about giving back skills, time, and energy to support local communities.”

The event will run from 7pm to 10.15pm at The St George Hotel in New Road Avenue, Chatham, on Friday, February 15.

Booking has now opened, and a £10 discount is available at the event booking page with the discount code KMNEWS19.

There are some cool prizes up for grabs in the raffle– including classic toys and collectables donated by Hornby, plus separate competitions to win vouchers for local attractions.

Any organisation entering three teams or more will have a prize presented to their top team, and there will also be two special prizes for the top teams from the NHS and care sector and from local government and schools.

The quiz is also supported by the Gillingham and Chatham branches of Specsavers.

Teams can have up to eight people, and the ticket price includes substantial nibbles plus a bottle of wine and a bottle of fizzy water on the table.
