Organised by the KM Charity Team, the Maidstone Big Quiz takes place on Friday November 9, and will raise much-needed funds for the Kent Messenger’s charity of the year, the Heart of Kent Hospice.

Kent accountancy practice Wilkins Kennedy is a long-term business supporter of the event, and Mike Startup, a managing partner based at the firm’s Maidstone offices, said he was delighted to be involved again this year.

Mr Startup said: “We’ve supported the quiz for 10 years or more now. As a business, we’re part of the local community and it’s nice to be able to contribute to that community. But also it’s just darn good fun.

“It’s an excellent way to spend a Friday evening. We normally send three teams along from our staff, and we have a bit of friendly competition between each other while also helping good causes and the community.

“It’s such a positive experience for our company, and I would thoroughly recommend other businesses to take part.”

The quiz is for teams of up to eight people. Doors open at 6.20pm for a 7pm start, with the fun estimated to finish at 10.30pm.

The top four teams will go through to the county final in January, and each member of the winning team get DFDS Seaways vouchers worth more than £150.

There will be a raffle featuring Hornby collectables, and a charity bar supplied by Shepherd Neame.

Any organisation entering a minimum of three teams will be presented with a prize for their best-performing group.

And there will be special prizes for the top teams from the NHS and care sector and from local government and schools.

Contestants will also receive substantial nibbles and a bottle of wine on the table.

Also taking a share of the charity pot will be services supporting child literacy and road safety, plus one charity chosen via prize draw.

The entry price is £65 per team, but there is a £10 discount when you book using the discount code KMNEWS18.
