20th anniversary KM Charity Walk open for booking and supported by Specsavers

Charity supporters across the county are being urged to make this year’s KM Charity Walk the most successful event in its 20-year history.

The walk, organised by the KM Group’s charity department, is being staged on Sunday, June 28 and concludes with a garden party at the finish line. Participants can raise funds for any good cause of their choice.

Pritin Patel, regional spokesman for Specsavers which is backing the walk, said: “We pride ourselves at being in the heart of the community and are proud to support this event in its 20 anniversary year.

“Our staff and stores will be encouraging customers to join in the KM Charity Walk and I would urge the community to follow our lead and get involved.

“The walk has been an important fixture in the fundraising calendar of many charities for two decades and we hope it will be a great success this year.”

Other organisations supporting the event include Mote House and Cotswolds Clothing.

Walkers can choose from a five-mile or a 10-mile route. Both routes begin at the Grade II listed mansion Mote House, Maidstone and the 10-mile walk includes views of historic Leeds Castle.

Goody bags and medals will be given out at the finish line. The event concludes with a BBQ in the gardens of the mansion house where a string quartet will perform.

Event organiser Sophie Wallace of the KM Charity Team said: “Participants will enjoy a lovely venue, food, drink, and live music to set the mood following a fantastic walk through beautiful countryside.

“We’ve made this event extra special and urge charity fundraisers, leisure walkers and keen ramblers alike to join our celebrations and help make this year one to remember.”

All ages are welcome and children under 16 go free when booking online.

Seventy per cent of sponsorship raised will go to participants’ named charities and 30 per cent to children’s road safety services. Find out more and book your place at www.kmcharitywalk.co.uk.

KM Charity Walk Fact File

  • The 2015 event is the 20 anniversary of the first ever KM Charity Walk, but the 19 actual walk as there was a one-year gap during its history.
  • All of the walks combined have raised a grand total of £843,000 for good causes.
  • The most successful event was the 2007 walk which raised £83,000 for charity.
