In recognition of its highly successful KM Walk to School campaign in Kent, Medway and Bexley, the KM Charity Team has been awarded Bronze membership of The Green Organisation.

Membership is restricted to companies, councils and communities that can demonstrate the effective measures they have introduced for environmental benefit.

Roger Wolens from The Green Organisation said: “The KM Charity Team practice what they preach about environmental concerns and they are actively adopting measures that will continue to improve their environmental performance for generations to come.”

The Green Organisation rewards and promotes the positive aspects of environmental endeavour around the world. It also organises the international Green Apple Environment Awards to highlight impressive environmentally-friendly practices as examples for other countries, organisations and communities to follow.

In November the KM Charity Team received its fifth Green Apple Award in ten years. Trustees of the charity Martin Vye, Gill Delahunty and Alan Albert collected the accolade during a prestigious ceremony staged at the Houses of Parliament.

Simon Dolby, chief executive of the KM Charity Team, said: “We are delighted to have measured up to the demanding criteria of The Green Organisation as we are committed to trying to do as much as possible for the environment.”

2016 marks the 10 anniversary year of the charity’s walk to school schemes Walk on Wednesday (WOW) and Active Bug, which urge families to swap driving for green travel. Last year the campaign removed more than 250,000 school run car journeys from the road, improving air quality, traffic congestion and safety at the school gate.

KM Walk to School is a Kent County Council and Medway Council led initiative for schools supported by organisations including Ashford Borough Council, Maidstone Borough Council, Orbit South, Golding Vision (part of Golding Homes), Leeds Castle, Circle Housing Russet, Whitefriars shopping area, Safer Kent, Bexley Council, Eurostar, Specsavers, Three R’s Teacher Recruitment and Mini Babybel.
