The Ashford heat of the KM Big Charity Quiz takes place on Friday June 21, with the winning and three runner-up teams qualifying for the county-wide Big Quiz final in January, where they will do battle with the best teams from Medway, Canterbury and Maidstone.

The Ashford heat will be held at the Ashford International Hotel and will raise money for the Kentish Express’s charity of the year, the Stroke Association, as well as KM Charity Team services supporting child literacy and road safety.

In addition, a share of the money generated will go to one good cause chosen via a prize draw.

The Big Quiz is no ordinary wine and wisdom event, and its scale provides something of a logistical challenge for its organisers and supporters.

Such a big event, for example, wouldn’t be able to succeed without the assistance of sound engineering experts IMP Studio & Live.

IMP director and production technician Phil Wilson said: “Providing a PA system and sound engineer for an event is typical of the work IMP does, but the Big Quiz events are pretty unique given their scale.

“We certainly don’t do any other events like it.”

But Phil regards the quiz as more of a challenge to be embraced than feared, saying: “IMP are proud to support all the Big Quiz events across Kent, and help the KM Charity Team raise money to continue the work that it does within schools across the country.”

IMP has worked with the KM Charity Team for approximately 15 years.

Phil explained: “We started with the Canterbury Big Quiz and now help with all the Big Quiz events, the Colour Run, Buster’s Big Bash, the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards, the Kent Literacy Awards, the KM Charity Partnership Awards and various other events."

Besides IMP Studio & Live, the quiz is also supported by Specsavers, Ashford law firm Hallett & Co, Barclays, Shepherd Neame, Office Angels, Hornby and Eurostar.

Shepherd Neame will provide the drinks for the charity bar, with Barclays match-funding sales.

Office Angels’ temps will act as runners on the evening. There will be a raffle featuring Hornby collectables, and one quizzer selected at random will have the chance to win two Eurostar tickets in the timed Win in 10 mini-game.

The entry price for the quiz is £65 per eight-person team, but there is a £10 discount when you book online using the discount code KMNEWS19.
