Golf day's £6,000 for air ambulance

A GOLF day in memory of a former president of the Rotary Club of the Weald of Kent has raised a final total of more than £6,000 for the Kent Air Ambulance Trust.

More than 130 golfers took part in the Brian Payn Memorial Golf Day, held at the Chart Hills Golf Club, Biddenden, on August 22.

A further 30 guests joined the players for a dinner on the evening of the event, which was organised by the Rotary Club.

Mr Payn, a keen golfer, had a heart attack at Bearsted Golf Club in May last year. He was taken to Maidstone Hospital by air ambulance but died later.

Weald of Kent Rotary Club member Kit Gunavardhana, who organised the day, said: "This is the second year that we staged the day and it now looks like becoming a regular annual event."

Television actor Karl Howman, who played Jacko in the Brush Strokes sit com, led one of the 34 teams taking part.
