More than 350 riders took part in the KM Big Bike Ride on Sunday, taking on either 50K or 100K routes.

More than £9,000 was raised for good causes with riders supporting charities including Dover District Volunteer Centre, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Pilgrims Hospice, North Kent Disabled Foundation, Royal British Legion, St Ethelbert's PTA Thanet, British Heart Foundation, Medway Autism Group, Canterbury Housing Advice Centre, Canterbury's City Impact, My Shining Star, and road safety and literacy initiatives delivered in schools by the KM Charity Team.

James Gill, 12, of Eastry near Dover was the youngest rider, taking part with his parents David and Jayne. The oldest rider was David Clark, 82, of Canterbury.

The annual event was staged at Betteshanger Park with the support of Benenden Hospital Trust, Eurostar, and Locks of Sandwich Cycles. The cycle shop's staff planned and signed both routes as well as providing on the day support including emergency breakdown recovery for riders.

Ramsgate windfarm Vattenfall sponsored the day and a team of its Thanet staff took on the 100K route.

Simon Dolby of the KM Charity Team, which organised the event, said: "We are so grateful to Betteshanger, Locks, Benenden, and Vattenfall for helping to make the event such a success. Scores of good causes will benefit from the funds raised."
