ONE of the most popular and enjoyable Bank Holiday fund-raising events in the Ashford area is back on schedule.
Last year the annual 17-mile Five Churches Walk that has raised vast sums for charity, plus the ancient buildings, was cancelled by foot-and-mouth disease fears.
Organisers are hoping for a record entry for the trek mostly on footpaths and bridleways in the Stour Valley on Monday, May 6.
Anyone prepared to walk for sponsorship can nominate to help Boughton Aluph, Challock, Chilham, Molash and Godmersham churches, Kent Air Ambulance or The Pilgrims Hospice.
This will be the 18th walk and participants can complete the full circle of 17-miles or take one or more legs the shortest of which is just over three miles between Challock and Molash churches.
Unfortunately, this year organisers have been unable to man Godmersham as a checkpoint but volunteers can turn up from 10am at the other four to register. Organising committee treasurer Dennis Owen is expecting to top the best recent entry of 400 walkers. For further details he can be contacted on 01227 738591.
