Sponsored abseil to aid guide dogs charity

ADVENTUROUS charity fundraisers are being sought for a sponsored abseil 100ft down the old control tower at London Manston Airport in Thanet.

Members of The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association hope to raise thousands of pounds at the event on October 13.

Individuals and teams from companies and organisations are all being invited to enter. There is a top prize of a helicopter ride around the castles of Kent donated by Helicharter, the Manston-based helicopter training and charter business.

Terry Swan, Guide Dogs community fundraising manager for Kent and East Sussex, said: “The abseil will prove to be a unique and challenging experience for both experienced and first-time abseilers."

Entrance costs £5 and there is a minimum sponsorship target of £50 er person. To qualify for the first prize of the helicopter trip, participants must raise a minimum of £150. There will be a special draw if two or more people raise the same amount of money in excess of £150

Registration takes place from 9.30am and abseiling will commence at 10.00am. All participants will be given a registration time and full safety briefing, hard hat and full safety gear. Successful abseilers will receive a certificate in recognition of their achievement.
