Kent charities are seeking height-happy daredevils to take part in an adrenaline fuelled challenge.

Those who dare to drop for the KM Abseil Challenge 2017 will scale over 100ft at Thomas Place in Maidstone, all in the name of good causes. On their way back down to earth, abseilers will be treated to panoramic views of the Gallagher Stadium, home to Maidstone United Football Club, as well as the rest of the county town.

Lisa Tyler of Housing and Care 21, which manages the care home high-rise said: "We're delighted to be involved with the KM Abseil Challenge. We consider ourselves to be at the heart of the community and what better way to demonstrate that than to support an event that so many charities are going to benefit from."

The annual challenge event raises thousands of pounds for vital charitable organisations and provides the perfect setting for team-building and networking exercises.

Dominic Comins, events manager at the KM Charity Team which organises the event, said: “We are searching for those bold and brave few who are willing to conquer their fears and become heroes for charity. The Maidstone Abseil always serves up a fun and thrilling day out, and we greatly look forward to seeing many people take part.”

As this is a collaborative event, abseilers are expected to raise a minimum of £75 in sponsorship with 70 per cent of their sponsorship going to their chosen cause and the remaining 30 per cent going to a children's literacy initiative run by the KM Charity Team.

The last abseil in Maidstone raised nearly £20,000 for good causes and organisers are hoping the next event will be just as successful. A prize will be awarded to the highest individual fundraiser at the event.

There will be two abseil challenges taking place from Thomas Place in 2017. The first will be held on Sunday, 19 March and the second in November. Charities wanting to use the event to raise funds for their cause should complete the Team Up with KM page on the website www.kmcharityteam.co.uk.
