Redvers Centre, Redvers Road, Chatham

A bidding war ensured a former school in Chatham sold at auction for £365,000 – much more than the guide price.

The Redvers Centre in Redvers Road, which was put up for sale by Medway Council, was offered for sale by auctioneers Clive Emson, with a guide price of £220,000 to 240,000.

The corner plot covers 0.7 acres and was originally built as a primary school. It has a variety of potential uses subject to all the necessary consents being obtainable.

Auctioneer John Stockey said: “It is a substantial building that went for a substantial price in a bidding war. There may be potential for redevelopment subject to permission.”

The site has frontages on Glencoe Road and Symons Avenue.

Also in Chatham was a house for improvement in Ernest Road. The mid-terrace house with three bedrooms sold for £110,000.

Plus land in Gillingham with planning permission for seven homes sold for £306,000. The plot in Balmoral Road on a corner site near just a few hundred yards from the railway station is in a prime position in a residential area. The permission allows for four, three-bedroom houses and three one-bedroom flats.
