Class tips on obtaining first job

PUPILS at Invicta Grammar School in Maidstone had the opportunity to question Kent firms about jobs at a careers fair.

Year 10 students could browse stalls from the county's top employers, including Kent Police, the NHS, law firms and the Kent Messenger Group .

They also heard talks by special guests including a prison governor and a vet.

The careers fairs are organised annually at the school for pupils who ar ehalf-way through their GCSE courses to help them decide what to do once they have got their qualifications.

Alison Carlow, careers advisor at the school, said: "The pupils were off-timetable to do careers activities for the whole day. They did a careers "Weakest Link" quiz to test their knowledge and did role play interviews.

"We got a very good reaction from the pupils. They particularly enjoyed having employers come to the school so they could ask them questions about how to get jobs."
