New plans for traffic calming on a dangerous stretch of road in Coxheath have come under fire by campaigners.

Villagers have never been happy with the current calming measures in Heath Road, which involve forcing drivers to slow or stop at a series of bottlenecks, known as build-outs.

Campaigners say it has tempted drivers to drive recklessly and created dangerous situations on the road.

KCC has now unveiled two new plans on its website - which can be viewed by clicking here - and is preparing to exhibit them to villagers this weekend.

They both involve fewer build-outs, while option B would lead to a series of "speed cushions" - or small speed bumps - being built along the road.

But campaigner Tony Monk criticised the way the new options have been illustrated and said they are not viable alternatives.

Mr Monk said: “The plans are awful. If that’s the consultation it’s a joke. I hope they’ve got something a bit more lifelike in the village hall.”

He said the speed cushions plan would create unacceptable noise levels, and added: “The other plan is just the more of the same - it’s no different.

“There must be alternatives that will keep the traffic flowing.”
