Video: M-way barrier brings hope for Aylesford residents

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

It may look like just a fence but a new barrier being built next to the M20 is promising to cut motorway noise.

The Highways Agency has begun work on a four-metre high noise absorbent barrier, on the London-bound carriageway of the motorway, between Hall Road and Teapot Lane, Aylesford.

The barrier is made from fibreglass and wood and is designed to absorb traffic noise.

Work began in January and is scheduled to finish by the end of March.

Rita Latter, of Yew Tree Close, who lives close to the motorway, said: "Over the years we have got used to the noise.

"Although there are still gaps in the fence to be filled in, it does seem to be quieter.

"We are hoping we will be able to talk to our neighbours without shouting at each other."
