London's New Year's Day Parade is promising to be bigger and better than ever before – and what’s more it’s free to watch.

With more than 8,000 performers ready to fill the West End with culture, colour, entertainment and music here's all you need to know about heading to the capital to catch it.

When is LNYDP 2024?

As the name would suggest London's New Year's Day Parade is on Monday, January 1 and it gets underway at noon.

However, organisers recommend anyone coming to the capital to see the parade finds their spot on the parade route around an hour before to be sure of a good view.

Who is performing?

Around 10,000 performers from across the globe are going to take to London’s streets on January 1 supported by some well-known musicians.

Dozens of marching bands from across America, hundreds of choreographed cheerleaders, pipers, dancers, stunt men and women are all expected to be among the list of cast members.

There will also be entries from 20 London boroughs - through which children, local community groups and performers will get the chance to showcase their talents to the crowds.

Any big name acts?

The One & Only Chesney Hawkes and supergroup Boyzlife have been named as the headline music acts at this year’s parade.

West Ham fan Hawkes, who is flying in from LA for the event, had one of the biggest hits of the 90s with The One & Only that remained at Number One in the charts for five weeks in 1991.

While Keith Duffy and Brian McFadden originally started out as members of Boyzone and Westlife respectively – but are currently preparing for a major tour as supergroup Boyzlife.

Joe Bone, director of the parade said: “We are going to party like it’s 2024, and to have such a top talent with Chesney and Boyzlife leading the way, is going to be the icing on the cake.

“We always have a blast on New Year’s Day, but this time round promises to be the biggest and best yet.”

Where does the parade start and finish?

More than 250,000 spectators, say organisers, are expected to pack the 2-mile route from Green Park to Westminster.

Barriers will line the streets to enable spectators to find a safe, freestanding place to watch. Ticket-only grandstand areas have already sold out.

At noon, the parade will set off near Green Park Station, before heading down to Piccadilly Circus. It turns left down Regent Street before making its way to Trafalgar Square, then right into Whitehall before going through to Parliament Square.
