Tesco recalls Free From snacks over fears they mistakenly contain gluten

Tesco is recalling a number of snack items in its ‘Free From’ range because they mistakenly contain gluten.

The supermarket has been forced to issue a food safety alert over a number of products in its gluten and wheat-free range because it says they may actually contain the protein, which is found naturally in wheat, barley and rye.

It means the products can pose a severe health risk for anyone with coeliac disease or those with an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

Tesco Free From Onion Rings, Tesco Free From Cheese Flavour Balls, and Tesco Free From Bacon Rashers are all affected by the recall.

Alongside the Food Standards Agency recall notice, which includes placing notices in stores to alert customers to the issue, Tesco says it has also contacted all relevant allergy organisations and charities so that it too can spread the word among members and supporters.

The products affected by the recall are all 150g in weight and carry a best before date of December 16.

Any households with the items at home, should not eat them, and instead return them to their nearest Tesco, with or without the receipt, for a full refund.
