117 homes planned for farmland in Ashford Road, New Romney

More detailed plans for 117 new homes in New Romney have emerged.

Outline planning permission was granted in 2019 for the houses on fields in Ashford Road, near the junction with Cockreed Lane.

It is close to the former Hope All Saints Garden Centre, where a further 25 homes have already been granted planning permission.

This latest application, from Pentland Homes, deals with reserved matters for the scheme relating to scale, appearance and layout.

Documents reveal the homes will be two storey, modern and have their own parking and gardens. They will be a mix of one and two bed flats and two and three bed houses.

The design and access statement notes: "Based on the character of the surrounding area, and the more recent development, the brief for the general approach for the housing is to continue the organic pattern of development.

"Plots will be clearly defined with parking on plot, a mixture of soft landscaped front gardens and hard landscaped parking bays, and generous rear gardens with separate access."

The overall site will be divided into three different zones, and a new access road will be created off Ashford Road.

Green spaces will also be included in the development, as will two sustainable drainage systems.

Around a third of the homes are proposed to be affordable.

The application was submitted to Folkestone and Hythe District Council (FHDC) earlier this month and a decision is expected by April.
