Fire at derelict railway station in Lydd

These were the dramatic scenes as a derelict railway station went up in flames.

Fire crews were called to Lydd in the early hours of the morning after the building in Romney Road caught light.

Four fire engines were sent to the scene and crews had brought the blaze under control by 4am.

People living near to the site were advised to keep windows and doors closed.

Fire crews remain at the scene damping down the area.

There have been no reports of injuries and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Lydd station was built in 1881 and was closed in 1971. It was used as a car workshop later that decade but has been derelict for years and subjected to frequent vandalism attacks.
