RAF Chinook flies over Romney Marsh and Ashford, near Appledore for training

A RAF helicopter has been spotted flying over the Kent countryside.

A Chinook flew across the skies over Romney Marsh and Ashford yesterday just before midday.

Will Iredale, a writer and communications consultant, spotted the helicopter flying near Appledore.

He said: "The raw power of these Chinooks never fails to amaze.

"You could feel the thump of its rotor blades vibrating through the air for a good minute before it roared overhead.

"It couldn't have been higher than 200ft, flying below the cloud base in quite appalling weather.

"Hats off to the skills of the pilot."

A RAF spokesman confirmed the Chinook was flying over the area for training.

"A RAF Chinook helicopter from 18 Squadron from RAF Odiham undertook essential routine training on November 7 over Kent.

"Such training ensures that our crews continue to be ready for global operations."
