Charity clay shoot held in Chevening raises £60,000 for Demelza Hospice Care for Children

A charity clay shoot has raised £60,000 which will be shared between two good causes.

Dozens of people gathered in a valley in Chevening for the event which was sponsored by Strutt and Parker estate agent.

The funds raised will now be split between Demelza Hospice Care for Children and the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust.

A total of 24 teams, including many of the keenest guns from the south east, competed over four stands and ended with the challenge of shooting against 24-times world champion George Digweed MBE.

Following the shoot, there was also an auction for guests.

Demelza’s major donor manager Sarah Kemsley said: “I knew the shooting fraternity had the reputation for being charitably minded, but raising £37,000 on the auction alone surpassed all my expectations.

“George Digweed is a very long-term supporter of Demelza and was as awesome as ever, especially with his demonstration at the end of the evening which I know will have been the highlight of our guests’ day, although provoking respect and envy in equal measures.

“Thanks to everyone who joined us and to our brilliant auctioneer Rhodri Thomas who knew his audience well.

“Captain of the Chevening Shoot Anthony Hamilton and Ian Kemsley of Detling Shoot pulled in numerous favours and worked tirelessly to make the day possible.”
