Bull mastiffs to be destroyed after serious attack on man in Westerham

Two dogs which mauled a man who was looking after them will be destroyed.

The bull mastiffs were part of a pack of five which attacked owner Kathleen Mongan's friend Steve Morris at his Westerham home leaving him with serious injuries in March.

At Maidstone Magistrates' Court yesterday a destruction order was served against two of the animals — meaning they will be put down in the next three weeks unless an appeal is lodged.

Mrs Mongan and the dogs — which were 14 months old at the time and are named Popeye, Bright Eyes, Boxer, Baby Girl and Sharpei — lost their home in a fire shortly before the incident and were staying with Mr Morris.

On the morning in question Mrs Mongan was rushed to hospital, leaving Mr Morris with the animals.

Following the attack emergency services descended on Vicarage Hill and Kent Police began an investigation.

The force has been approached for comment on the current status of that investigation.
