M20 part closure as blaze lorry is cleared

One lane of the M20 is currently shut as rescue teams look to remove a crane lorry which burst into flames on Friday afternoon.

Emergency crews had originally been summoned at around 3.45pm on January 5 to the incident. Four fire engines and crews wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze, allowing traffic to continue unhindered.

But today the clear-up mission has continued, with the remains of the burnt-out vehicle being removed. It has forced one land of the London-bound carriageway to be shut between Junction 2 for Wrotham and Junction 1 for Swanley.

Traffic is apparently coping well, despite the temporary closure.

The crane broke down and caught fire on the hard shoulder of the motorway yesterday, with traffic being temporarily halted in both directions during efforts to put out the blaze.
