Jake Townsend of Davis Close, Sevenoaks lashed out with broken bottle after being refused entry to a party

A teenage thug who lashed out with a broken bottle after he was refused entry to a party has been sentenced to two years youth custody.

Jake Townsend, of Davis Close, Sevenoaks, left a woman needing surgery to her hand and a man with a cut to his neck in the attack on June 20 last year.

Maidstone Crown Court heard how he hit out with the bottle in Holyoake Terrace late at night after being barred from the party.

He thrust the weapon at the man’s neck, causing a small cut, but inflicted lasting damage to a woman’s hand as she tried to push her friend out of the way.

Townsend, 18, admitted two offences of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Det Con Paul Newton said: "This was an unprovoked attack by an offender who went out that evening intent on causing someone serious harm.

"One of Townsend’s victims required surgery to repair the tendons in her hand, which was so badly injured that she may suffer long-lasting problems with movement and dexterity.

"I would like to thank her and the other witnesses to the attack, who were able to provide vital evidence leading to Townsend’s arrest. He now has plenty of time to consider the consequences of his actions."
