Great Ormond Street Hospital fundraiser from Sevenoaks to cycle to all 92 English football league stadiums

A sports-loving family man aims to cycle 2,500 miles to all 92 football league stadiums in 23 days – but admits he’s no cyclist.

Danny Brazenell, from Sevenoaks, is taking on the challenge to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) after it cared for his niece who had cancer.

Starting the ride on Monday, August 14 at Carlisle’s Burton Park, the 45-year-old will finish his challenge on Thursday, September 5 when he arrives at Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park in Devon.

Each day will consist of around 100 miles of pedaling.

The self-employed landscape gardener and ex-taxi driver will take a month off from work to complete the ride.

Despite not being a cyclist Danny says he is willing to endure 226 hours in the saddle, after his niece, who lives in Brighton, fought blood cancer aged 12. She has now fully recovered.

He said: “I decided on the route using a digital tool that plugged in all the stadiums.

“The most I have ever ridden is 100 miles so every day is going to be a challenge as I’ll be waking up knowing I have that distance to cycle in just one day.

“Even though I am not a cyclist I feel that my body and my mind are ready.

“It’s now or never with this bike ride because I have several different injuries which play up every so often.

“I am looking forward to the last stop the most as I will know that will have completed the ride but they will all be amazing.

“I love football so to go to all 92 EFL clubs is a dream from when I was a kid.

“If I can give back to someone it should be GOSH as it’s a great hospital.”

Danny, whose accommodation each night has been paid for by his friend Ben James, will not be alone.

His 17-year-old daughter, Lauren, will document the ride for his social media page and her godfather James Smith will ferry her around in the challenge van.

The father-of-two will be met by his 45-year-old wife, Sorrell, and his “little girl” Karris, 12, who will ride with him from Goodison Park to Anfield in Liverpool.

The busiest day will be Friday, September 1 when he tackles the 14 London clubs.

A day later he will cycle into Kent from Sutton United where he will be joined by his friends Matt and Lauren Kirby.

Danny, whose pals John and Scott bought him the bike he will be using, will also visit Gillingham FC’s Priestfield Stadium on his visit of Kent.

The Sevenoaks Town FC veterans’ player hopes to raise £10,000 for the charity through his Just Giving page.

GOSH treats 750 seriously-ill children and young people from across the UK on a daily basis.

A GOSH spokesman thanked Danny, who is a Manchester United fan, for his fundraising efforts.

He said: "The monies raised through Danny’s challenge will support ground-breaking research, advanced medical equipment, child and family support services, and the rebuilding and refurbishment of wards and medical facilities.
