A thug smashed a glass into a clubber's head before repeatedly punching him as he lay helpless on the ground... while dressed as an animal.

Carl Harold, of Charles Street in Blue Town, Sheerness, was wearing the fancy dress costume when he targeted a 31-year-old man.

The 25-year-old left his victim scarred after the attack in a Minster-on Sea nightclub.

The man had been waiting to be served at the bar at around midnight on October 28 when Harold hit him with a glass without warning.

After the glass struck him, the victim fell to the floor and Harold started punching him in the side of the face.

The victim was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, in Gillingham, where he received stitches to his head.

Now Harold has been jailed for three years at Maidstone Crown Court for inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He was arrested by Kent Police soon after the attack. Harold said in interview he had been provoked by his victim after remarks about his girlfriend.

He claimed the pair got into a fight and he fought back in self-defence.
