Big queues as roadworks begin

DRIVERS faced diversions and queues in Sheerness town centre today when road reconditioning works began in the High Street.

The works, part of a rolling programme which has already been carried out in Trinity Road, are expected to last until November 6. They involve stripping off the surface and rebuilding the road.

The High Street will be closed to traffic between St George's Avenue and Millennium Way between today and Monday (October 28).

Traffic diversions are via St George's Avenue and Medway Road.

On Monday work will begin on the High Street section between St George's Avenue and the Canal Bridge. The stretch of road remained open to vehicles but temporary traffic lights were being used to ensure the work were done safely, a council spokesman said.
