Residents escape to safety as fire in Delamark Road, Sheerness is dealt with by firefighters

Firefighters tackled a blaze in a top floor flat of a three-storey property in Sheerness early on Good Friday morning.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire in the flat inside the building in Delamark Road just before 1am.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and positive pressure ventilation fans to put out the fire.

All residents in the property were accounted for at the scene.

The fire damage was limited to the living area of the flat. However, there was extensive heat and smoke damage to the remainder of the one bedroom flat and the upper communal hallway.

The other two properties within the converted house were unaffected. The cause of the fire is now being investigated.

Firefighters left the scene at 1.46am.
