First Sheppey Area Committee meets Tuesday night at 7pm

The Island's first area committees takes place tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 7pm via Skype.

It will feature a 20-minute section where the public can ask questions.

The agenda will also include discussions on brown tourism signs for the Island and heritage and conservation issues.

The public can email questions to democraticservices@swale.gov.uk by noon today (Monday) take part.

The Skype link will be available after 4pm today along with the agenda here .

Cllr Mike Baldock, deputy leader of the council (Ind Aliance, Borden and Grove Park), said: “Area committees give local councillors a chance to reconnect with the public and bring valuable local insight to council decision-making.

“Committees will draw up work programmes to improve quality of life in their areas and enable local insight to be brought to bear on issues being decided by the cabinet or the whole council.

“Following consultation with the public late last year, we’ve decided on four areas - Eastern, Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Western to allow for the nuances of town, country and coast to be fairly represented.

“Honest and open dialogue with the public is a key priority for us. We’re excited to get the first round of committees up and running.”

The first area committee was Western on September 1 followed by Sittingbourne on September 8. Sheppey is the third. The final committee is Eastern on September 29.
