The Sheppey Crossing was closed this afternoon after a vehicle shed its load of plastic sheeting.

The A249 was cordoned off by police following the accident near Sheppey Way at around midday.

A police spokesman said: "The Sheppey Crossing was closed for safety reasons after a vehicle shed its load on the carriageway.

"The debris has now been cleared and the crossing is open again."

Delays had cleared by 1pm.
