The voting has ended and the counting is now underway to discover the winner of this year’s Times Guardian Cute Kids’ competition.

The deadline for voting was midnight on Monday with the early indications showing we could be in for one of our best-supported events in years.

This year we gave people two ways in which to vote: Text massaging and through a voucher which appeared in the paper.

In total 531 people sent 963 text messages. We were absolutely inundated with vouchers as well – these will be counted this week.

This year we took photos of 239 children at Tesco, Sheerness, which is sponsoring the event alongside Photo25.

The three entrants with the highest number of votes will be crowned the winner and two runners-up.

The overall winner will scoop £450 cash, a framed portrait, flowers and chocolates, courtesy of Tesco.

The second-placed child will take away £150 cash, a framed portrait, flowers and chocolates.

And the third placed youngster will get £100 cash, a framed portrait, flowers and chocolates.

Editor Matt Ramsden said: “We have been absolutely delighted with how this year’s event has gone so far.

“We will finish the voting in time for next week’s paper when we will announce the winner and two runners-up.”
