A Sheerness football club is getting ready for the season ahead with some fundraising activities.

New Road FC plays its first match on Sunday, September 9 and a sponsored 30 mile bike ride generated nearly £1,100 for the non-profit making outfit.

Eight managers and parents set off from the Co-op Club, St George’s Avenue, Sheerness, at 9.30am on August 19 and went around Sheppey, over the bridge to Borden, Sittingbourne, and back again to the starting point.

They arrived back at around 12.45pm and afterwards a barbecue was held which raised a further £300.

At the event, there were cake stalls, face painting and an adults versus children football match, which around 150 members enjoyed.

Debbie Harrison, who runs the club alongside husband Daren, who is chairman, said: “It wasn’t bad going, quite a lot of them hadn’t done that distance before.

“Thank you for all of out parents and supporters who keep us going, we are non-profit making so everything we make is from them.”

Sheppey Round Table also donated £330 for a set of kits for the under-14s ready for the new season.

Mr Harrison, said: “Thanks for the very generous sponsorship. The team look very smart in their new kit.”
