Drugs case man now faces rape charges

A FATHER accused of supplying drugs to his teenage son, who later died in a car crash, is also facing serious sex charges.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that Shaun Packer is accused of three charges of rape, one of attempted rape and two of indecent assault, allegedly committed between June 1999 and April this year.

Packer, 39, of Victoria Street, Sheerness, appeared via a TV link from Elmley Prison. He will appear again on November 22, when he is expected to enter pleas to the charges.

He is also charged with supplying heroin to his son Danny, 18, and another person between November 21 and 25. No pleas have been entered yet but the trial date has been set for March 7 next year.

Danny Packer, of Manor Road, Rushenden, was killed on November 25 after his Ford Sierra Sapphire was in a collision with a Vauxhall Corsa near the Ship-on-Shore pub in Marine Parade and then hit a lamppost.

The teenager was thrown from his car and suffered severe head injuries. He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.
