Fire crews were called to 40 tonnes of hay alight in a barn in the early hours of this morning.

Two engines attended, together with a water unit and police at Eastchurch, near Warden Bay.

The 70m by 15m hay barn was said to be well alight, and the fire also affected an adjoining workshop.

Crews used foam to put out the blaze in the workshop, at just after midnight.

The contents of the barn were allowed to burn off under controlled conditions, with crews keeping watch to ensure it didn't spread to buildings and caravans nearby.

The cause of the fire is not known.
