Staff at Sheppey Community Hospital have been praised for their hard work and dedication.

MP Gordon Henderson went to the site in Plover Road, Minster, on Friday to present them with a cake to mark the 65th anniversary of the NHS.

It is something he did five years ago when it was 60 and he says, hopefully, he will be doing the same on its 70th anniversary.

Mr Henderson had a tour of the building and spoke with patients and nurses.

Mr Henderson, who shares the 1948 birthday, said he wanted to recognise the milestone as he feels it does a fantastic job.

Although he admitted that, like everyone else, he sometimes has a grumble about certain aspects of the NHS, he said it is a brilliant service.

He said: “It was to thank not just the nurses but all the staff for the work they do.

“I was also doing it on behalf of my constituents as I would like to think the majority appreciate the fantastic service we have got.”
