Steven Foy from Sheerness to visit every football league stadium for "Run the Grounds" fundraiser

A Sheerness dad is to hit the ground running for a fundraiser which will lead him to becoming a member of the “92 Club”.

Steven Foy will set out in January to visit every football league ground in England and Wales.

The 31-year-old James Street resident will be using two legs rather than four wheels for his Run the Grounds campaign in which he’ll attempt to hot foot it around the 92 stadiums in 56 days.

His ultimate goal from this incredible feat of endurance is to raise £5,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

Steven hopes to go 72 grounds better than his pal who performed a similar pavement-pounding tour in 2012.

He said: “My friend ran to all the Premier League clubs, but as he told me, for the distance he ran, he could’ve taken in another 60 stadiums.”

Steven, a decorator, who has a stepson, will begin his countrywide jaunt on January 9 at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium.

Having planned his route from first club to last, he said logistically, the Wales-based club offered the best route to the many grounds he has to conquer.

With “eight or nine” teams in close proximity, London promises to be the most profitable day in terms of stadia visited.

He’s calculated, at 122 miles, the journey from Plymouth to Bournemouth provides the longest distance between grounds.

Running clubs around the country have offered Steven accommodation en route, with fellow athletes promising to accompany him at different times to ensure he isn’t left to stride out alone.

He aims to reach his final ground, Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium, on March 5.

As someone who trains six days a week, and last year, ran a half marathon every day in September, Steven is more than suited to a leg-weary trawl of England’s football cathedrals, great and small.

The Crystal Palace fan, whose wife Julia is due to give birth, said 80 of the clubs so far contacted about his visit have promised to donate a signed shirt as part of his fundraising campaign.

He said people have called him “crazy” to embark on his plan to become a wanderer and rover to every league-based Town, City, United and Albion in England.

In explaining his conquest, he said: “I’ve had a few heart problems in the past, although nothing major, but it makes you realise other people have had it harder than you.”
