A man and a teenage boy have been arrested after police carried out a large drugs bust near a primary school.

Officers raided a detached house in New Road, Sheerness, just yards from St Edward's Primary School.

It is understood they took away about 750 cannabis plants in at least 10 police cars.

The discovery was made yesterday afternoon, with plants found on the ground floor and upstairs, as well as in the basement.

A police spokesman said: "Officers from the Swale Community Policing Team attended the house, in New Road, on Thursday afternoon after receiving concerns the address was being used to grow the substance.

"Inside, officers uncovered a large cultivation spread across numerous rooms, along with evidence to suggest electricity was being illegally abstracted to help grow the plants."

A 23-year-old man, from Sheerness, and a 17-year-old boy, of no fixed address, have been arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity.

They remain in custody as inquiries continue.

Three police cars and a large blue van were parked outside the property this afternoon.

The bust follows another in February where officers raided a terraced house in St George's Avenue, Sheerness, and took away 'vast' amounts of cannabis plants.
