Man in custody after fight at Eastchurch

Police are investigating an attack on Sheppey this afternoon which has left a man in hospital.

The victim was airlifted to London by a Kent Air Ambulance helicopter.

A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene and is currently helping police with their inquiries.

The incident happened in Warden Road, Eastchurch.

Early reports suggested the injured man may have been stabbed with a screwdriver during the fight, which is believed to have happened in or near the Shurland Dale Holiday Park.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 3.50pm to a report of an assault in Warden Road, Eastchurch, following an altercation between two men.

"Officers are at the scene. One man has received injuries and has been taken to a London hospital by air ambulance.

"A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is in police custody."

Inquiries are ongoing.
