Woman hit by car in Millennium Way, Sheerness, Sheppey

Two accidents within half a mile of each other resulted in a woman and two children being taken to hospital this morning.

The first incident happened around 7.55am in Trinity Road, Sheerness, when a child, believed to be a 10-year-old boy, was hit by a car.

He was treated by medics at the scene before being taken to hospital with non life-threatening head and leg injuries.

One eyewitness said: "It was awful. I put my coat over him as soon as it happened.

"The boy had a head injury and was screaming with pain in his leg.

"The police and ambulance cars were there within minutes. The boy was in the back of a big ambulance when I left.

"He ran out in the road from nowhere, the car that hit him had no chance of stopping in time."

About 30-minutes later, a woman and child, believed to be around six, were hit by a car in nearby Millennium Way.

It is understood the woman hurt her leg in the incident while the child suffered minor injuries.

Both were taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for further treatment. Police were called in to direct traffic as the woman lay in the road for some time.

The exact details of how the trio came to be hit by the cars is currently unknown.
