Man charged following Queenborough ATM raid

An man has been charged as part of an investigation into the attempted theft of a cash machine.

Officers were called to the Morrisons supermarket in Thompsett Way, Queenborough, at about 1.40am yesterday following reports that a digger had been used to try to remove the ATM from a wall.

A Ford transit flatbed was also found at the scene.

The incident is being investigated by officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.

A significant amount of damage was caused to the wall but the cash machine itself was later found buried beneath the rubble.

An Audi A4 was seen to leave the scene and following a pursuit was involved in a collision with a roundabout on the M2 near to Junction 3.

Keiron Armstrong, 38, of Brays Mead in Harlow, Essex, was arrested following the incident and has subsequently been charged with conspiracy to steal.

He will appear before Medway magistrates for a remand tomorrow.
