Police hunt escaped burglar

By Hayley Robinson

A convicted burglar who is on the run from police could be in the Swale area.

Kent Police say 45-year-old Adrian John Gowers has connections in Swale, Medway and Maidstone and is appealing for information on his whereabouts.

Gowers failed to HMP Hollesley Bay, Suffolk, on November 22 after being granted a period of temporary release to an address in Rainham.

DC Simon Mather, of Kent Police’s Force Intelligence Bureau, said: "Gowers is unlawfully at large having served only two years of his prison sentence.

"We would like to hear from anyone that may know his whereabouts or have seen him recently.

"He is not known to use any aliases and we believe he previously worked as a builder. Gowers has connections to Medway, Maidstone and Swale."

Gowers was sentenced to seven years imprisonment at Canterbury Crown Court on October 5, 2007, for cash machine burglaries in Kent. He received four years for burglary with intent to steal a cash machine from Barclays Bank, Birchington, and seven years for burglary from Midland Bank, Birchington, where £135,000 was stolen. Both offences happened in the early hours of 14 July 2007, and involved the use of a stolen JCB digger and a stolen flatbed lorry. His three accomplices remain in prison.

If anyone has any information they are asked to contact DC Simon Mather on 01622 654654 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
