A man who works as a prison officer on the Isle of Sheppey denied bigamy when he appeared before Sittingbourne Magistrates Court.

Andrew Scott, 40, of Wickham Close, Newington, is alleged to have married Valerie Kim Arnold while still married to Alfrey Johns. Both women also work as prison officers.

Scott, who was arrested after returning from his honeymoon, blamed his ex-wife for failing to apply for a Decree Absolute when he appeared in court last Friday.

The case has been adjourned until Tuesday, December 22. He was released on conditional bail. The conditions are that he does not contact or interfere with either or indirectly any prosecution witness namely his ex-wife and the minister who conducted the service Elizabeth Cox.
