Philip Goldson, from Queenborough, jailed after video emerged of him racially abusing woman on Sheppey to Sittingbourne train

A man filmed hurling racist abuse at a woman travelling with her children on a busy train had left court just hours earlier for two similar offences.

Philip Goldson, of Harold Street, Queenborough, has now been locked up after pleading guilty to two charges of racial harassment in relation to the incident on January 5.

The 48-year-old was on the 3.25pm service from Sittingbourne to Sheerness when he was filmed by a fellow passenger racially abusing a black woman who was with her two young children.

The footage showed Goldson aggressively telling the woman she had no right to be in the UK and that she should change her infant’s nappy.

After KentOnline published the video, Goldson was arrested and appeared in Medway Magistrates’ Court on January 9 via videolink, before being remanded in custody.

He initially denied both offences but changed his plea ahead of an appearance before Maidstone magistrates on Thursday.

It has now emerged that on the day Goldson hurled insults at the woman and her children, he was travelling back home from another court appearance for two racially-motivated assaults.

He avoided an immediate jail sentence on the day, instead being given a suspended term.

But his offending stretches back even further. He was previously given a 50-day prison sentence for assaulting and stealing £240 cash from a woman in Queenborough, Sheppey on December 8 last year.

He denied the assault charge but was convicted of both offences by magistrates and fined a total of £75.

Goldson has now been jailed for a total of 158 days as the offences were committed during the operational period of his previous sentence.

He was also ordered pay £100 in compensation, an £80 victim surcharge and £390 in fines and costs.
